The Vegetarian Picnic

Picnic basket© Photographer: Nikolay Okhitin. dreamstime.com The pleasures of a vegetarian picnic! Eating in the great outdoors, surrounded by beautiful scenery, good company and great food. What more could you ask for?

Picnics can be as easy and sophisticated as you make them. A popular picnic trend at the moment is going to an outdoor concert and laying out a lavish spread for your friends. I have seen some people go to great lengths to have the "best picnic" laid out. These people must spend a small fortune on some of the foods they bring. Not to mention the time it has take them to prepare everything.

My advice is to keep it simple. Don’t try and reproduce the gourmet meal that you would serve at home in the great outdoors. Some of the best picnics I have had have been the simplest: good bread, cheeses, pickles, tomatoes, olives and something to wash it all down with!

Keep you picnic safe

Always follow the food safety guidelines when preparing, storing and transporting your picnic.

Remember the 2 hour rule. This is the longest time any vulnerable food should be kept out of the fridge (or cool box). In hot weather this time should be reduced to 1 hour.

You want your picnic to be a pleasurable event, not one you would rather forget!
