Low Fat Recipes and Lunch Ideas



Are you trying to loose some weight and looking for low fat recipes and ideas for your lunchbox? If the answer is yes, this is the page for you!

Like many people, I have to watch my weight from time to time. I hate feeling hungry and always look for low fat recipes that are filling! One food I am particularly keen on when watching the calories is homemade soup. Many soups can be made without the addition of fat, they fill you up and taste great.




Many sandwich fillings can also be modified to reduce the fat and calorie content. Use low fat cheeses and try not to use any butter or spread. Better still, opt for vegetable based fillings or egg sandwiches without the mayo!

Here are some sample vegetarian lunchbox menus to give you some ideas. Of course, to loose weight you also need to make sure that all your meals are healthy!

Week 1

Monday

  • Homemade tomato and basil soup
  • Bagel with low fat cream cheese (no butter required) with salad
  • Low fat fruit yogurt
  • Drink: Sparkling mineral water
  • Snack: piece of fruit
  • Tuesday

  • Salad of Couscous with Roasted Vegetables
  • Rye crackers
  • Slices of fresh pineapple
  • Drink: Smoothie
  • Snack: Low fat fruit yogurt
  • Wednesday

  • Curried egg wrap (with low fat mayo and a pinch of curry power)
  • Poppadum broken into bite size pieces (cook in microwave using a use low fat spray oil)
  • Drink: mineral water
  • Snack: natural yogurt with a handful of berries of your choice
  • Thursday

  • Homemade vegetable soup (with low fat mayo and a pinch of curry power)
  • Large hunk of seeded bread (without butter or just a small scrapping of low fat spread)
  • Drink: Fruit juice
  • Snack: Slice of malt loaf
  • Friday

  • Rye bread with grated carrot, raisins and apple slices (rub with lemon juice to prevent discolouration)
  • Banana
  • Drink: marmite or similar
  • Snack: Handful of unsalted nuts
  • Week 2

    Monday

  • Wholemeal pita bread with cottage cheese and salad
  • Apple or orange
  • Drink: Low fat milk drink
  • Snack: 1 oatcake
  • Tuesday

  • Curried rice salad (with low fat mayo and a pinch of curry power)
  • with boiled egg
  • Slices of mango
  • Drink: low fat yogurt drink
  • Snack: handful of cherry tomatoes
  • Wednesday

  • Veggie Chilli (preferable home made)
  • Wholemeal pita bread
  • Low fat fromage frais
  • Drink: Sparking mineral water
  • Snack: grapes
  • Thursday

  • Potato and leek soup
  • Hunk of wholemeal or seeded bread
  • Low fat natural yogurt with fruit of your choice
  • Drink: Mineral water
  • Snack: Carrot and cucumber batons
  • Friday

  • Medium slice of focaccia with half fat mozzarella, basil and tomato
  • Fruit salad of seasonal fruit
  • Drink: tomato juice
  • Snack: handful of olives
