Healthy Eating Tips

Why healthy eating tips for vegetarians? Isn’t a vegetarian diet already healthy?

Not always! Look at this example of a (not untypical) lunchbox:

  • 2 Slices of white bread with butter with a slice of processed cheese.
  • Bag of crisps
  • Can of fizzy pop.

This may be a quick lunchbox, but it is not a healthy lunchbox. This example contains:

  • no fruit or vegetables
  • added salt in the processed cheese and crisps
  • high saturated fats in the butter and cheese
  • sugar and additives in the fizzy drink
Now this may be fine for the odd lunch. But surely we can make a much healthier, tastier vegetarian lunchbox. Let’s make all those meat eaters jealous!

Remember our diet plays a major factor in our health and well being.

A healthy diet is a varied diet. No single group of foods can give us all the nutrients we require.

Here are some tips based on current healthy eating guidelines:

  • Increase the amount of fruit and vegetables you eat
  • Increase your fibre intake
  • Don’t eat too much fat
  • Reduce your sugar intake
  • Reduce your salt intake
  • Drink lots of water
